Privacy & data

Last verified: October 2026

FocusDragon is built so that the smallest possible amount of data ever leaves your Mac, and so that the data that does leave is precisely accounted for. This page is the canonical reference: if anything here conflicts with the in-app copy, this page is right.

What we store on our servers

  • Account: email, display name, and an optional age range. Stored on EU-hosted infrastructure managed by our authentication partner.
  • Block configurations and entitlements (if you've opted into cross-device sync). Daily statistics rollups when sync is enabled.
  • Subscription state: your plan, when it renews, any switch you've scheduled, and your payment customer ID. Card numbers are handled entirely by our payment partner; we never see them.
  • If you start the AI Focus free trial: a record of it (the plan you chose, when it ends, and whether it was cancelled or charged), so each account gets one free hour.
  • AI Focus usage: how many checks you made each day and what they cost, so your monthly allowance can be worked out. Counts and amounts only, never anything that was on screen.
  • “Wrongly judged? Tell us” reports, only if you send one: your goal, the reason AI Focus gave, the app, the page title and address, the AI model and prompt version, your note if you add one, and the time. Never a screenshot. Each report is deleted after 90 days.

What we do NOT store

  • AI Focus screenshots. They pass through FocusDragon's server on their way to be judged, and are never stored or logged there.
  • Per-second usage telemetry: it stays on-device. Your focus session history, block lists and lock configurations live in a local database.
  • Keystrokes: never captured. Screenshots: never taken outside an AI Focus block you started.
  • Payment card numbers: handled by our payment partner; they never touch our infrastructure.

AI Focus: exactly what happens

AI Focus only watches during a block you start. Every 10 to 20 seconds (less often once your monthly allowance of full-speed checks is used up) it takes a screenshot of your whole screen, every display if you have more than one, and shrinks it before it leaves your Mac. Each screenshot goes with your goal, the name of the app in front, its window title and, in a browser, the page's address.

The screenshot passes through FocusDragon's server, which checks your plan and never stores or logs it, then goes to our AI model provider under zero data retention. It's judged, a yes-or-no answer comes back, and nothing is kept or used to train any model. The one exception: the provider may keep an image its child-safety scanner flags. FocusDragon never switches to another provider automatically.

A screenshot shows whatever is on screen at that moment, including other people's messages, emails and video calls, and private browser windows. If a password field is focused when a check is due, AI Focus skips that screenshot.

AI Focus is for people 18 and over. This is a declared limit; we do not ask for or verify your age.

What stays on your Mac

  • The AI Focus log. Each time AI Focus closes something, it keeps the two screenshots behind that call, with your goal and the reason, for 7 days so you can see why. Then they're deleted. The log never leaves your Mac.
  • A list of your open tabs, kept up to date during an AI Focus block, so FocusDragon can offer them back after a cooldown. It's deleted once restored, or after 24 hours. Private windows are never saved.
  • Every other screenshot is discarded as soon as it's been judged and is never written to disk.

The browser extension

AI Focus never reads page text. During a block, the extension tells the FocusDragon app on your Mac which tabs you have open (each tab's address and title) so it can close a distracting one and offer the rest back later. That list stays on your Mac. Private windows are recorded as empty windows, so no private address or title is ever stored.

Third parties

  • Our AI model provider: judges AI Focus screenshots under zero data retention, never trains on them, and receives nothing outside a block you started.
  • Our authentication, error-monitoring, analytics, payment, and hosting partners, all on EU-hosted infrastructure. They handle account auth and sync, crash reports (stack traces only; no screen content, no page text, no personal data), opt-in anonymous aggregate product analytics (off by default), payments and the billing portal (all card data), and the website and API hosting layer.

GDPR: data export and deletion

  • Export: Settings → Account → Export Data. Generates a JSON bundle of everything we hold for your account.
  • Deletion: Settings → Account → Delete Account. Permanently removes your account row, subscription metadata, synced configurations, and usage counters. Payment records are retained as long as legally required for tax and accounting.
