Payment failed at checkout

Symptoms

Checkout errors out, refuses your card, or completes but you don't get the entitlement. Sometimes the bank shows a pending charge for a payment our processor says failed.

Common causes

  • 3D Secure challenge opened in a popup that your browser blocked.
  • CVV confusion — 3 digits on the back of Visa/Mastercard, 4 digits on the front of Amex.
  • Expired card, or address-verification mismatch with the card-issuer's records.
  • Bank-side fraud rule flagged the merchant or country.

Step-by-step fix

  • 1. Allow popups for the checkout domain, then retry. 3DS challenges often arrive in a second window.
  • 2. Try Apple Pay if checkout offers it — it bypasses CVV/address checks entirely.
  • 3. Try a different card (debit cards sometimes fail where credit cards work, and vice versa).
  • 4. Phone your bank if charges keep declining — a 30-second "yes, that's me" call usually clears the fraud rule.

Charged but no entitlement

If your bank shows a successful charge but FocusDragon still says free tier, see "I paid but the app says I'm still on free" — usually a short webhook delay. If it's been more than 5 minutes, email support with the receipt and we'll comp the entitlement immediately.

Pending charges that fail are released by your bank within 1-7 days. You weren't actually billed.
