What BYOK is
A one-time $15 purchase unlocks a custom AI provider field under Settings → Developer. Once unlocked, you paste an Anthropic Claude API key and AI Focus sends classification calls straight from your Mac to Anthropic. FocusDragon's server proxy is bypassed; Anthropic bills your Anthropic Console account directly.
Getting a Claude API key
- Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in (or create an account).
- Open API Keys in the left nav and create a new key. The key starts with sk-ant-api03-…
- Add a payment method on Anthropic's billing page — Claude API usage is paid, but classification calls are cheap (well under a cent each).
- Copy the key — you'll paste it in the next step.
Activating BYOK in FocusDragon
- Purchase BYOK from focusdragon.app/pricing ($15 one-time).
- Open the Mac app and go to Settings → Developer.
- Paste your Claude API key into the custom provider field. FocusDragon validates it with a tiny test call before storing.
- Save. Run a quick test by starting an AI-powered block — the status indicator should show Claude via BYOK.
Cost implications
Anthropic charges per token. Classification calls run a small fraction of a cent each — for most users, a few dollars a month directly to Anthropic, usually less than the subscription saved.
BYOK does NOT include any other Pro features. Statistics, Locked Blocks, all Pro lock types, and Bulletproof Strictness still require the $5 Pro purchase or an AI Focus subscription. BYOK and Pro are independent — hold either, both, or neither.
BYOK calls go directly from your Mac to Anthropic's API and are never proxied through FocusDragon. We never see your API key, your prompts, or your screenshots when BYOK is active. Anthropic's API contract: data retained ≤30 days for abuse monitoring, never used for training.
