Delay lock — deep dive

Last verified: May 2026

What it does

When you tap Stop on a Delay-locked block, a countdown overlay appears. You must keep the overlay focused for the configured number of minutes — switch apps and the countdown resets (if you have Reset On Focus Loss enabled). Once the countdown ends, the block disables for a short window before re-arming.

Why it works

The cooldown is dead time. You can't do anything else productive during it (you have to stay on the overlay), and you can't reach the thing you wanted to reach (the block is still active). Most disable attempts die in the first 60 seconds.

How to configure

  • Set Lock Type to Delay.
  • Set Delay Minutes — the number of minutes you must wait. Default 5.
  • Set Unlock Window Minutes — how long the block stays disabled after a successful wait. Default 5.
  • Optionally enable Delay Reset On Switch so leaving the overlay restarts the countdown.

When to use it

  • You sometimes legitimately need to disable the block, but want to be sure you've thought about it first.
  • You hate locks that fully refuse you — Delay always lets you through, eventually.
  • Replacing Password for users who've memorized the password.
If you set Reset On Switch off, you can start the countdown and walk away — the block disables itself after the timer with no further interaction. That's sometimes what you want and sometimes not.
