AI Focus cost and monthly cap

Last verified: May 2026

The cap

AI Focus subscriptions include up to 100 cumulative hours of AI-watched focus per billing month (150 on AI Focus Max). "AI-watched" means any minute a block with a non-empty task context was active and the classifier was polling. The budget pools across every AI-powered block you have.

Graceful degradation

We don't hard-cap. Cutting users off mid-month — exactly when their reliance on the system is highest — would be a worse experience than slowing the polling rate. The AI assistant automatically slows its polling rate as you approach the monthly allowance, and continues at a reduced cadence past it.

What slower polling means in practice

The classifier still runs, the interventions still fire, but the reaction time is longer. For most users this is a meaningful but tolerable degradation; for power users approaching the cap, it's the signal to consider BYOK.

Why we picked this shape

Degraded service is better than no service. A user who hits the cap and gets cut off churns; a user who hits the cap and just sees slower polling stays. The cap exists to keep our unit economics defensible at the $4.99/mo and $39/yr founder pricing.

Monitoring your usage

  • Settings → AI Focus shows your month-to-date hours and your current polling rate.
  • The status changes color as you approach the higher degradation tiers.
  • Hours reset at the start of every billing month.
BYOK calls bypass the cap entirely — you're paying Anthropic per call, so polling stays at full cadence regardless of how many hours you've used.
