Symptoms
Settings → Account → Export Data triggers a spinner that never resolves, or you get an error, or the ZIP file isn't in ~/Downloads.
How export works
The app requests an export from FocusDragon's server, which returns a ZIP saved to ~/Downloads (filename like focusdragon-data-export-YYYYMMDD.zip). Large accounts can produce a sizeable file.
Likely causes
- ~/Downloads write permission denied (rare, usually after a TCC reset).
- Network drop mid-export.
- Disk full on the volume containing ~/Downloads.
- Very large dataset hitting the in-app timeout.
Step-by-step fix
- 1. Free up at least 1GB on the volume containing ~/Downloads.
- 2. Confirm Downloads is writable — drag any file in via Finder as a smoke test.
- 3. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders → FocusDragon → make sure Downloads Folder is enabled.
- 4. Quit, relaunch, and retry the export.
- 5. If you have months of data and still time out, email support — we'll generate the export server-side and link you to it.
Your data export is yours. There is no fee, and the format is a ZIP containing your account data. Bring it to a spreadsheet, another tool, or a friendly LLM.
Still stuck? Contact support at hi@focusdragon.app and we'll generate the export server-side within 1 business day.
